Product Description Pikmin is a little ant from space, looking to get back home as fast as possible. Help him get the parts he needs to finish his repairs! Real-time action and intuitive controls combine with gorgeous cartoony graphics for a whole new gaming experience!
Amazon.com Review As stranded, miniature spaceperson Olimar, you must find the missing 30 parts your spaceship needs to get you back home. The parts are scattered across a forested area crowded with giant (when compared to our hero's size) animals and other hazards. Our hero stumbles across a race of part-animal, part-plant, all-bizarre creatures he names Pikmin. Olimar has to learn how to lead the Pikmin around the forest as he uses the abilities of the different-colored Pikmin to overcome the many obstacles in his path. Learning when and how to make the best use of your Pikmins' skills and traits is the essence of the game. You can control up to 100 Pikmin at a time while figuring out which Pikmin are best suited for a particular task. Some are better fighters, while others can survive in water or handle explosive bomb rocks. However, even the best Pikmin herder will have to sacrifice a few of the plant-headed beasts for the greater good. It's the making of new strategies to minimize losses that makes Pikmin challenging and fun. For a first-generation GameCube title, the graphics, sound, and music are fantastic and show an awesome amount of detail. Though it's no Pokémon, this game should appeal to wide-eyed younger gamers as well as seasoned vets. The controls are intuitive and feel perfect for the standard GameCube controller. However, learning to position the camera can be a tad frustrating during some of the more tense moments, as it has only a few magnification levels and needs constant adjustment. The biggest obstacle Olimar faces is time. He has only 30 days (each day is about 15 minutes in real time) in which to find the necessary parts. While this keeps the pace of the game up, some may find such limits somewhat frustrating, as it means there will be a lot of repetition and rethinking of strategy. It also means that diligent gamers may find Pikmin a rather short game. At the end of your gaming day, Pikmin is one of the best games on the GameCube. --Mark Brooks Pros: - Very innovative and original
- Gorgeous graphics
- Great sound and music
- Amazing blend of action and strategy
Cons: - Time limit causes players to repeat tasks
- Experienced strategy gamers may find Pikmin ends too quickly
- Difficult to control camera during tense moments

A new reason to get out the game cube, sit down with some soda and play. November 9, 2009 Zoe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have played this game before once and I did beat it it took about a week and a half so lots of playing time. it's a pretty fun game that will give anyone for ages 6 to 100.
Controls: The controls are pretty easy to use once you use them once or twice. Moving is even easier like in a lot of games. All you have to do is move the left control stick on the game cube romote and thats it.
Graphics: the graphics are a little rough but they are pretty good over all for the game. The only flaw in them is that you can't really see whats water and whats dirt so you sometimes drown a pikmin or two. T_T
Gameplay: The game has a good story *a fast over view* you crash land on a planet and you have to find enough parts in 30 day while taking care of your pikmin.
Monsters: okay this is one of the places where the game, graphics and controls shine. As for graphics on the monsters it's really good lots of details in the eyes body and actions. As for the controls they are fun and help thumb mussels. The different types of monsters is amazing each one being different and being cooler then the last.
Pikmin: The pikmin are so cute and are amazing. Some can breath in water while others can run around in fire while even more can throw bombs at things. 0.o Also the graphics on them are amazing.
Pros: Has cute pikmin and monsters, is something new and fun to play, has fun mind busters to solve and makes for a small challange for people.
Cons: You only have 30 days to finish, can't really see the water, some of the monsters are kind of hard and it takes forever to pick the pikmin out of the ground.
Over all it's a really good game for anyone.
This game is junk! September 9, 2009 Mark E. Valenti (Pennsylvania) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
This game is weird and frustrating. The gameplay is so stupid! You run around making a bunch of weird creatures called Pikmin do all the work. The rest of the time you spend is solving uncreative puzzles, fighting enemies that will probably kill you, and trying to get more pikmin. This game has no business being called one of the best games on gamecube, no business at all!
Good Things
- Nice graphics and sound, not great.
Bad Things
- Simply put, stupid gameplay.
- Boring puzzle solving.
- Frustrating and/or boring overall.
- Over a dozen nit-picks and minor problems that all add up.
Presentation- 62/100
It certainly doesn't make you too excited to play the game!
Graphics- 80/100
Graphics are... proficient.
Sound- 74/100
Decent sound to go with nice graphics.
Gameplay- 33/100
Unbeleivably boring, stupid, and frustrating!
Innovation- 71/100
Sure it's unique and new, but can something that sucks so much really get a high score in innovation?
Replay Value- 22/100
I wouldn't even rent this game.
Overall- 35/100
Like most brand-new series started from 1996-present, it sucks!
cute game July 16, 2009 A. Dvorak (Albuquerque, NM) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've really enjoyed this game. My 10 yr old is CRAZY about it. It has a cute story line and the premise is about working together. My 7 yr old has a hard time figuring out how to do certain tasks. otherwise it's a Great Game!

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED!!!!! Don't listen to the people who say it has tons of flaws, because it doesn't.
Let's start with the graphics. I really couldn't believe that I was actually seeing the TV. The water would pass for real-life water for someone who has 20/20 vision. I'll admit that the land (neutral grass, not the kind that gives you golden blobs)leaves a little to be desired, but the creatures, the Pikmin, even Olimar himself are Video Game Masterpeices. If you're a sucker for graphics, then this is the game for you.
The controls are very simple, and easy to get used to. A to throw Pikmin(Or do a small punch if you don't have any Pikmin at your disposal) B to call Pikmin to you and the Control Stick to move around. Sadly there is no jump, but that would make the game very cheap and not challenging at all.
Gameplay is awesome. It's hilarious to see your enemies die and shrivel up as your army of Pikmin swarms them. Then you carry them back to camp to be "divided up and reproduced into more Pikmin". True to some of the reviews that said it, some Pikmin do straggle behind the group, but as soon as they see everyone leaving without them, they scramble to get back.
The only minor flaws and inconveniences are
1)The 30-day limit, though I think it just makes the game more challenging. They could've given you at least 40 days.
2)The game is already very challenging without the 30-day limit. Some of the creatures take an entire minute to kill, and some of the parts are REALLY hard to get.
3)It would help a ton if they also gave you a little more time during the day, too.
Overall, this is probably the best game I have ever played, and I'm going to stick with it until I beat it (I've only gotten to the 3rd level).
For All Ages February 19, 2009 Erik A. Vega (Kansas, USA) This game is one of those few gems when it comes to video gaming. It has all the right formula for a good game, and it well over delivers. From the fact that the music is usually very calm, and the characters colorful, and the idea simple and unique.
The reason why I rated this a 4 (4.5 technically) instead of a 5, is simply the 30 day restriction. I would of loved to explore the places, to just gather as many Pikmin I could and throw them at every foe each day, but the limit on time made it seem more like a rush then a experience.
Even with this though, it's one game I believe everyone should play at least once. The series is fantastic, as the second installation actually fixed this time problem. All in all, a must buy.
